Elyonim veTachtonim workshop during the Digital Humanities Expo & the instructions for prospective users

The Jagiellonian Digital Humanities Center together with the Flagship Project Digital Humanities Lab of the Jagiellonian University organize the Digital Humanities Expo on January 19th–20th, 2024. As the name of the event implies, it aims to promote digital humanities and bring together scholars operating within this “big tent”. The Expo will be conducted in Polish and will take place in Cracow, Faculty of Philology, 9B Mickiewicz Avenue, Collegium Paderevianum, 5th floor. The full program can be accessed on the Expo’s website

If you speak Polish and if you are interested specifically in the Elyonim veTachtonim system, then feel invited to attend my workshop that will take place on Saturday (January 20th, 17:40). Please note that prior online registration via the web page is mandatory.

The forthcoming workshop turned out to be an adequate opportunity for producing long-overdue materials dedicated to the prospective Elyonim veTachtonim users. These instructions will be (hopefully!) updated in the future.

Workshop abstract (in English)
Elyonim veTachtonim is a system for qualitative and quantitative analysis of traditions about supernatural entities, based on theoretical and methodological foundations of evolutionary psychology, cognitive linguistics, cognitive theories of religion, and formal analysis. This workshop aims to introduce users to its technical and pragmatic basics and, above all, the nuances of constructing an electronic inventory of such traditions. The participants will get acquainted with the databases that have been constructed so far (Hebrew Bible and Babylonian Talmud) and will experience first-hand the construction of an inventory based on other textual corpora

This workshop was prepared in the framework of the project The Supernatural Entities and Their Relationships with Humans according to the Babylonian Talmud from the Quantitative and Qualitative Perspectives financed by the National Science Centre, Poland (SONATA 14; Registration number: 2018/31/D/HS1/00513).
